A Letter To My Son On Father's Day

Today is your first father’s day. But you don’t have a daddy, so we’re celebrating podge mummy day. Right now you don’t know any different. The men in your life are mostly the ones with furry faces, uncles, granddads and cousins. (And cats). You don’t know that some families have one of these living with them. You don’t know that most kids have a dad somewhere.

You just have two mummies. That’s all you know.

When you’re older it’s going to be more obvious. Some of your friends will have daddies and you won’t and they’ll wonder why.

You’ll wonder why.

That’s okay, questions are okay. Your questions and theirs. Don’t be too upset or offended. People are curious by nature and more so by what’s different.

Just remember that differently isn’t bad. Your mummies have spent their entire lives being different and are better off for it. Most of the time.

What is important to always remember is that you don’t need a daddy. You don’t even need a mummy. What you need are parents (single or multiple) that love you. One is enough, two is good. Mummies are good, daddies are good, so whatever you have – as long as they love you – that’s all you need.

That’s is what I want you do say when people ask you about your daddy. You don’t have a daddy and that’s okay because you have two mummies that love you instead.

And we do love you. We always will. I promise.

Love Podge Mummy

Like the poems and other bits and bobs, I will put this in his baby book. They say the internet is forever but I can’t guarantee that.
