2017 World Surfing Champion - John John Florence!!!

John John Florence secures back-to-back surfing world titles!

John John Florence needed to make the final at the Pipe Masters at the famous "Banzai Pipeline" to secure the world title, but it did not even come to that after the Frenchman Jeremy Flores knocked out World Title challenger Gabriel Medina (2014 Surfing World Champion) during the quarter finals.

“To win here is just my dream,” the Hawaiian said before his semi-final battle with Ian Gouveia. “It was a pretty nervous build up; I’m shaking right now. It’s been an awesome year."

Florence entered the season biggest and final event in leading position but he had three title contenders right behind him. After showing an incredible performance at the 2017 Pipe Masters, Florence firstly secured his world title during the quarter finals then made his way to the final and finished the event in 2nd.

What an incredible year it was for the now 2X World Surfing Champion!
