Same-sex marriage: Liberal MP Andrew Wallace 'shocked' by daughter's gay relationship.

Liberal MP Andrew Wallace was shocked when his daughter told him she was with another woman.

"I couldn't believe it was happening to us," he commented.
"We go to church every Sunday, it was certainly a real shock, I couldn't believe it."

It is reported that that the Queensland Liberal MP and his wife Leonie are practising Catholics who struggled to support same-sex marriage.

"Leonie and I were both upset. It went against what our traditional beliefs were and what we had been raised to believe in the Catholic Church," he said to AM.

Malcolm Turnbull announces biggest overhaul of espionage, intelligence laws in decades.

The ABC reports that foreign political donations will be banned and those trying to influence Australian politics on behalf of others nations will be forced to declare who they are working for, under new laws. It is reported that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced the new legislation amid growing concerns within the intelligence community about the influence of Chinese Government agents and political donations. It is reported that Mr Turnbull said that the Government could not afford to be naive about the threat of foreign interference and stressed that the laws were not focused on the loyalties of multicultural Australians.

"Foreign powers are making unprecedented and increasingly sophisticated attempts to influence the political process, both here and abroad," Mr Turnbull commented.

There will be a foreign political donation ban to be introduced to Senate this week. New laws introduced would create a new "transparency scheme" forcing foreign agents to list who they work for. And the definition of espionage would be expanded to include "possessing" sensitive information.

Liberal leadership change would not affect most voting intentions – Guardian Essential poll.

It is reported by the guardian that a majority of Australians polled in the latest Guardian essential survey said that a leadership change within the liberal party would make no difference to their vote at the next federal election. It is reported that people were asked whether a leadership change would make them more or less likely to vote for the Liberal party, 18% of the Guardian Essential sample said they would be more likely to vote for the government at the next election, 13% said less likely, and 54% said it would make no difference. Among Coalition voters it is reported, that 29% said that they would be more inclined to vote for the government with another leader, 16% said less likely, and 46% said it would make no difference. The new survey reports the Guardian of 1,836 voters also confirmed the Turnbull government was closing out the torrid 2017 political year trailing ALP by 10 points, with the opposition ahead on the two-party preferred measure 55% to 45% – meaning that the ALP would easily win any election held today.

First Sydney's stadiums, now Hordern Pavilion site slated for redevelopment.

The Guardian reports that hard on the heels of the New South Wales government’s controversial decision to spend $2bn rebuilding two Sydney stadiums, the next prime site slated for redevelopment is the old showground precinct, next door to the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz stadium. However, it is reported that this too is likely to be be contested, with beloved public spaces including the Hordern Pavilion potentially up for conversion to elite sporting uses alongside plans for a multi-storey hotel. It is reported by the Guardian that behind it all are a web of associations between the investors in the Entertainment Quarter, which forms a large part of the precinct, and the powerful Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, which lobbied the state government hard to make rebuilding the Allianz Stadium a priority.
