Tell me why gun registration would be any more accurate then voter registration?
Last week, I asked why bother with gun registration because it was unlikely to be maintained properly and quickly become inaccurate.
I pointed to the example of voter registration and all its inaccuracies as an example (and in my view the right to vote is much more important then the right to a gun). Yet politicians in many states (particularly the pro gun control states) refuse to maintain the accuracy of the voter rolls.
Needless to say - I got a bunch of incoming.
So it was with interest that I read this article in The Hill confirming my concerns. First on the importance of accurate voter rolls:
Remember, control of the Virginia House of Representatives was decided by a coin toss. One single illegal vote can disrupt the consent of the governed.
Highlights one of the causes of the inaccuracies that the very politicians calling for gun registration refuse to fix:
Passed by Congress in 1993, Motor Voter. . . has also made it disturbingly easy for foreigners to influence our elections.
Gives some examples of inaccurate voting rolls allowing people to vote illegally:
- Felipe Rojas Orta received one last year after being on the rolls for eight years and casting a ballot for president in 2016. Three days before President Trump was inaugurated, Orta scratched a handwritten note saying, “I wish to cancel my voting registration because I am not a citizen.”
- Mildred Nyama also received a similar letter from Pittsburgh election officials. Election records show that she voted in the 2008, 2012 and the 2016 presidential elections.
- Othman Al Amoudi registered through the Pennsylvania Motor Voter process in 2005, and he voted. He was finally cancelled as a non-citizen in 2012.
- Devanathan Mudaliar was an alien who registered to vote at a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation office in August 2012. Four years later, he asked election officials to cancel his registration as he was “inadvertently registered through some unknown system issue.”
So I say again to the politicians demanding gun registration - first show us you have the will and ability to maintain an accurate voter registration system.

I completely agree with you, but they do not have time for that. That would mean they have to quit blowing smoke up peoples skirts and looking after their own greedy interetests versus trying to fix the broken system that would benefit everyone, which you know, they we’re elected to do. Politics is nothing more than a get rich quick scheme. You either choose a particular stance because you think that will win you votes so you spew what they want to hear, or you choose the lobbyists that will pay the most. Disgusting.
