Are more people committing suicide because they own a gun?

Gun Suicide per 1000 comparison.PNG

When I saw this comparison of gun suicides between USA, Australia, & UK I thought the overall rate of suicides in the USA might be a lot higher then other countries simply because a lot more people own guns in the USA.

But when I checked the data for all suicides (by any method - not just guns) in each country, I saw it is about the same rate in all three countries. So if someone wants to commit suicide and they do not have a gun - they are going to find another way to do it.

Would this same logic apply to School Shooters? i.e. would they just find another way to commit murder.

The Source for this data is GunPolicy.org:

GunPolicy.org is the world's most comprehensive and accessible Web source for published evidence on armed violence, firearm law and gun control.

GunPolicy.org is hosted by the Sydney School of Public Health, the University of Sydney. The School provides internationally recognised leadership in public health by advancing and disseminating knowledge — in this case, supporting global efforts to prevent gun injury.

Guns aren't making anyone do anything. Of course suicide might be a little easier with a firearm, but it doesn't make you pull the trigger.

Looks like that is the case.

the marxist obsession - blame anything for anything, and never take personal responsibility for anything.

Thank you

very good news.thank you for information.
dear @ozphil

Pesky facts are so annoying to the disingenuous and the liars..

I was surprised to find this. It is the great thing about the internet ans being able to do a lot of reseach ourselves. It helps us better inform our opinions.

I’m not the biggest fan of most social media, but if that’s the price I have to pay to have unlimited resouces at my finger tips thinks to Google etc...ill take it. I enjoy reading stats like this that someone did not post the first thing they found and actually look at more than 1 website to pull your opinion and info. If the sheep in this country would understand this, they could acutally educate themselves and have their own opinion vs being given one.

Thank you for the kind words - it is interesting what you find when you start digging into issues - often things you did not expect to find when you started.
