Health care postponed for patients with unhealthy lifestyles
The NHS will ban patients from surgery indefinitely unless they lose weight or quit smoking. Om recent years, a number of areas have introduced delays for such patients, with some patients informed that the operation will be postponed for month giving the patient time to quit smoking or to lose some weight.
The bottom line is to save money. East and North Hertfordshire and Herts Valleys said the plan is aimed at encouraging people 'to take more responsibility for their own health and well being'. But both of these institutions are in financial difficulty, so read between the lines.

I am torn between thinking this is a nanny state thing or a drug test the welfare to cut costs in an intelligent manner situation..
I am also torn. I see their point of telling people with 'unhealthy' habits that they should stop the bad habit. But to postpone treatment? Thank you for commenting.
