Data globalization

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Read this great article about the social media. Made me think. Is it really the social media, or is it the global access to data, and especially the news which really is a dopamine when you think about it. The printing press was a great disruption, and the weekly newspapers were a big hit. Continuing that tradition comes internet and the social media.
But are we really able to handle this kind of data. Area humans supposed to be exposed to this much data or information in the world instantaneously. There are probably bad things happening somewhere around the world all the time. But does should you be aware of every bad thing happening in the world and responding to it, without much effect most of the time. Of course people should have empathy, but if you really want to make a difference, do it in your local community instead of tweeting your protest. We do realize that we are not built to handle this amount of data, which is probably why we are training machines to do it for us. I mean, someone should do it, because after all we are creating so much data. Some one should process all of it and tell us the highlights. Forget about social media, how many 24hr news channels do we have ?
Also, I feel that sometimes all this big news and events from around the world are really taking a toll on the local communities. Local news are rarely sensational.
I am of the opinion that, people are all into these techs, like crazy because this is like a new thing, timeline wise. Social medias hasn't been around for a long time. So at some point people are going to get used to this and get off it, and use them as a tool, which it is, to a means, instead of treating as something where all their attention should be. Or we will evolve into zombies with cellphones. Either of those two scenarios.

Oh yourself are a part of it. Can you switch off from time to time, even steemit? Hard, isn't it?

Personally, I am very much aware that these are all tools and that technology should not replace my communication skills , but rather enhance it. Its just like any other tool. And it is not hard, once we get out of the whole bubble or a passive way of life. But I understand the general point that you are making, I am very much a part of it. Thank you for that painful reminder.

posingan is very interesting, and it's a very uplifting author @onesnzeros

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?
