Win Mint
was elected the new president of Myanmar Win Mint. He was elected a week after the previous president's resignation.

She is known to be close to the country's state councilor Aung San Suu Kyi.

Vin Maanat was the lower house speaker since 2012. He resigned from this post last week. Then the 66-year-old leader was made vice president.

Last week, Thin Qi resigned from the presidency because of health problems.

Parliament takes a week to choose Thin's successor. Then one of the three candidates today elected one.

The National League for Democracy (NLD), a longtime member of the United Nations, was seen to be a good loyal follower.

Win Mint got 403 votes out of 636 votes. Parliament Speaker did not say anything about when he will take oath. It is expected, however, that the oath will be held on Thursday.

After long military rule, Aung San Suu Kyi's party NLD came to power in the Democratic elections in Myanmar. NLD won this election in the November 2015 election.

NLD leader Suu Kyi could not be president because she was restricted to the constitution created by the army.
