The largest expulsion of Russian diplomats and alleged Intelligence officers, in history, is currently unfolding worldwide. The UK maintains its conviction of Russian hands being responsible for the deployment of nerve agent ‘Novichok’ on the streets of Salisbury, England. At least 21 countries are now expelling Russian diplomats including: Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the list goes on. Would these countries be willing to disrupt trade and global mobility without smoking gun evidence? Historic movements are taking place.
Kim Dotcom has been the face of revenge for film studios and record labels since a Hollywood-style raid on the German-Finnish Entrepreneurs mansion resulted in him and his wife being held at gunpoint before his arrest for conspiracy to commit racketeering, copyright infringement, money laundering and wire fraud. He has now however, been paid $90,000(NZ) for “loss of a benefit” and “loss of dignity and injury to feelings”. A Human rights tribunal has also approved Dotcom’s long pursued request to receive all documents detailing his arrest and US extradition attempts from the office of the attorney general who previously denied him access. Kim Dotcom tweets”After years of perseverance the time is here, we won, we’re getting to the truth. I’m no longer the defendant. To former AG Chris Finlayson, former PM John Key and everyone else who was part of the real ‘Mega Conspiracy’, it is showtime! Private prosecution! I see you in Court.”
China overtook the US in 2017 to become the world’s largest oil importer. This leverage over oil exporters is threatening the US dollar as the default pricing method worldwide. China has launched it’s own oil futures denominated in Yuan on the Shanghai Futures Exchange, now Unipec, Asias largest refiner, will buy Middle East crude priced against this newly-launched Shanghai Futures Contract. This will destabilize the petro-dollar system in global financial markets. BP says Chinas oil consumption will increase to 753 million tons per year in 2040, making the Yuan pricing more appealing to a wider market. The dollar would lose strength and it’s global currency value will drop.
Netflix has been banned from competing at Cannes Film Festival. The two parties are on opposing sides of the online streaming vs offline cinema experience. The two models, it can be argued are in competition with one another so have now agreed Netflix will not be expected in future. Unless however Netflix releases it’s own productions in theatres which Netflix has refused to do.
A Ukrainian code-named ‘Denis K’ was the mastermind behind $1.24bn worth of multiple cyber-heists. A gang of Ukrainian and Russian operatives have been described as being “unusual in how slow and methodical they are and how organized they are”. Using every worn tactic from email infiltration to ATM malware they converted cash machines into free money dispensers. The only lead Interpol was able to follow was provided by a cooperative man linked to the cyber-crime gang. Once in possession of large amounts of money the gang converted the loot into crypto-currency to buy property and vehicles. This method of investment helped their downfall. Ross Rustici, senior director at digital security firm Cybereason said “That’s usually what happens with these who are very good on the network side, they make mistakes on the money side,” he said. “You can’t buy a nice villa on the Mediterranean with crypto-currency. Or at least not yet.”
Kim Jong-Un is suspected to have used his Fathers armoured train to visit President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Marking the first time Kim has left North Korea since becoming its ruler in 2011. Reports are not confirmed but sources close to the organization methods used have highlighted parallels between this visit and Kims fathers previous visits to Beijing. Yun Sun an expert in this field has said how this "disrupted the whole railway schedule for northeast China, and people are observing that and drawing conclusions about who might be on that train." Previously China did not meet with Kim Jong in person as the relationship was tense and Kim did not deserve "the honour, the validation, of having a meeting" with President Xi. Since Trump has been open to face to face meeting, moods have changed.
