Mr Zuckerberg has sold more Facebook stock than any other public company, shifting 1.14 million shares in the past three months. Facebook shares have dropped 6.7 percent since 50 million user accounts are feared to have lost private information to a Company named Cambridge Analytica. Since close last Friday Zuckerberg’s wealth has dropped from $75bn to $66bn.
Regarding Cambridge Analytica Facebook made this statement: “We are suspending Strategic Communication Laboratories (SCL), including their political data analytics firm, Cambridge Analytica, from Facebook”. In 2015 Facebook ordered Cambridge Analytica to destroy user data it had received from a company named Global Science Research which specialized in harvesting data from the platform. Now since a 26 year old whistle-blower named Christopher Wylie we discover it has not done so. The problem is however, the ease of which companies are able to utilize personal information to sway public opinion on the big decisions. Facebook is primed to manipulate the public. Only this time it was Cambridge Analytica. Who will use Facebook next?
Whatsapp was bought by Facebook for $19bn in 2014, now the co-founder of whatsapp is joining the hashtag soapbox #DeleteFacebook. With such publicity Facebook shares have lost $50bn in value.
The US is at war in seven countries, either in a direct combative role or indirectly as “advise and assist” units. The seven countries are: Syria, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and Niger. We are talking about the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, Isis in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and Niger and finally suppressing Al-Qaeda in Somalia. The US has been largely successful in countering Islamic State with up to 98% of the opposition territory being under US control at certain phases of this conflict. Colin Clarke works for counterterrorism and insurgency at RAND research and development, he says ““It is important to remember that terrorism is a tactic, and we’ve been devising a strategy to counteract a tactic”.
Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammad bin Salman has told women they need not wear headscarves as long as their attire is "decent and respectful", he says "The laws are very clear and stipulated in the laws of sharia: that women wear decent, respectful clothing, like men... This, however, does not particularly specify a black abaya or a black head cover,"". Women are also now allowed to attend mixed gender sporting events and this summer they will gain the right to drive a car.
Russia has been accused by the US of illegally deploying ballistic missiles in Europe. The 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty banned the deployment of all ground-launched, medium-range cruise and ballistic missiles from Europe. Russia has denied the U.S. stance and countered that Washington had already quit the Soviet-era arms-control pact. Putin quoted the Trump administration's Nuclear Posture Review as good enough reason to carry on.
The Office of United States Trade is trying to prevent the NAFTA (North American Free-Trade Agreement) framework to include detailed labels on food products. A population without easy access to information on what is inside their food will be less choosy and open to buying more products. South American countries are interested in increasing public awareness on food composition with symbols etc including Mexico, who is involved in NAFTA discussions but is currently being shut down by the US.
The Ex Libyan leader Moamar Gaddafi’s Son, Saif Al-Islam has announced from Tunisia that he is running for Libyan president this year. Seeking national reconciliation and acceptance of others to rebuild the country. Saif Gaddafi will focus on having one Libyan president and one Libyan government to return the country to stability.
President Xi Jinping speaking at Great Hall of the People on Tiananmen Square has made a passionate nationalist speech to National People's Congress saying "The Chinese people have been indomitable and persistent, we have the spirit of fighting the bloody battle against our enemies to the bitter end… The Communist Party is the supreme political leadership of the country and the fundamental guarantee to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation." Supposedly the most powerful Chinese leader since Mao Zedong it is suspected the President will hold on to power until his death.
