Biggest peaceful protest of Romania – An example for all nations
There are moments in the history of a nation which need to be immortalized and kept as examples for the future similar situations to come. In Romania’s history the beginning of 2017 year meant the beginning of a new era. The era of democracy proved by hundreds of thousands of people showing the biggest collective consciousness in post-revolutionary period (after the end of communism from 1989).
If not the biggest peaceful protest in the word than one of the biggest, the Romanian 2017 protest, should be looked at, as an example for all the nations that are experiencing the injustice, the greed and the corruption of their governments and leaders.
At the new governmental elections in Romania a new party won the majority in the government. After only 40 % of Romanian citizens went to vote the Social Democratic party had won the elections with only 18% of the Romanian voters. In January 2017 after only a couple of week since they were elected the cabinet of Romania started to introduce new ordinances to modify lows to reverse the anti-corruption low by decriminalize official misconduct and offer pardon to imprisoned corrupt politicians and let new corrupt politicians get away with all their accusations.
As a response to this injustice hundreds of thousands of people took the streets in the next days across all Romania starting with Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara and Sibiu protesting against having steeling and corruption legalized in Romania. This ended up in being the biggest protest after the fall of communism regime from 1989 and not only a simple protest but a peaceful protest in which 600 000 people of Romania showed an awakening of a collective consciousness and a union that has never seen before by managing to wake in every person’s soul the civic spirit. Human flags were created in Victoria’s Square, long walks were hold for days over the biggest cities of Romania until the intended pro-corruption lows were reversed.
I personally find this a story, a story that must be framed in the history of Romania to be used as lesson learning for the situations to come. The first and most important lesson to be learned for all the Romanians and not only, but also for other nations is: Go Out and Vote. The actual Government of Romania that will lead the country for over 3 years from now on is a Government elected by only 18% of the Romanian citizens. Why is that? Because less than half of the Romanian citizens went out to vote their opinion.
get the corrupt people out of the seats of power! Happy for Romania!
Romanians are no longer willing to silently accept injustice. Quite cool to see that happening.
