Queer Dance Party "Werks" for Consent
The organization "Werk for Peace" had a colorful Saturday afternoon outside the Trump International Hotel in Washington DC. Confetti and music filled the air as hundreds of protesters danced. They say the dance was meant to symbolize their right to bodily autonomy, and speak out against sexual assault.
"The Trump administration has worked tirelessly to silence and sideline individuals who experience sexual violence, especially those at the margins – queer and trans individuals, people of color, immigrants, sex workers, people with disabilities – who experience sexual violence at higher rates," a statement from the organizers said. "Donald Trump himself has been accused by at least 19 women of sexual misconduct. It is time to uplift survivors’ voices and reclaim our bodily autonomy."
