Cryptojacking Attack Raced up to 8,500 Percent
The recent rapidly growing digital money phenomenon has provoked a new type of crime, cryptojacking.
Cryptojacking is when cyber criminals use viruses to search (mine) digital money using their victim devices.
"This type of cyber crime increases as much as 8,500 percent," said Andris Masengi, Country Manager of Symantec Indonesia on Friday (13/4/2018) afternoon in Jakarta.
David Rajoo as Director of System Engineering Malaysia and Indonesia said, cryptojacking is quite new in Asia.
In action, cyber criminals attack users individually, especially those working in companies with large computer power, and do not understand cryptojacking.
This action is done by trapping users to open a site that has been infected by cryptojacking virus through the device.
When the site is opened, it will pop up a menu that if not closed can be a path of exploitation to victim devices and used as miner bitcoin.
"With cryptojacking, people are not aware of the device system used by hackers to mine bitcoin or other digital currencies," said Andris.
Cryptojacking Effect
Furthermore, Andris summarizes the various effects that occur when you have been hit by cryptojacking attacks.
1.The Device is Slow
If the device suddenly operates slower, try checking it out. Usually, this is the main characteristic of you being the victim of a cryptojacking attack.
"Take an example when opening Excel a lot longer when there is a cryptojacking attack," said the user slow because of many applications, but it was attacked by cryptojacking, "said Andris.
2.CPU Usage Becomes 100 Percent
One of the material losses caused by this cyber attack is the power of the device can jump to 100 percent. It is not a positive thing, because if the device is used 100 percent continuously, it will accelerate the damage.
3.Large Energy Consumption
The most expensive factor in mining digital money is not just buying the device, but it takes a lot of power.
If your device or company is used by bad guys to mine digital money, do not be surprised if electricity consumption swells.
In the United States had found the case of students of digital money miners who blocked electricity bills, so they are desperate to use electricity campus.
4.Battery Quick Out
With the increase in power consumption of the device you use, automatic battery will be quickly depleted. Unconscious mobile device users exposed to cryptojacking would have thought their laptop batteries were wasteful and had to be filled in due to outdated lifetimes.

5.Very Dangerous For Smartphones
Can be imagined when cryptojacking attacks your smartphone. The result is the battery becomes easily discharged, the smartphone is slow and quickly damaged.
Watch out when you open a suspicious site, then suddenly pop-up tabs. Make sure you immediately close the tab, or if difficult to close the tab, try to close the browser you use for precaution.
