The Catalan leader Carlos Pimonaut spoke on a local television channel saying that Catalonia has got the right to become a state after Sunday's controversial referendum.
Hundreds of people were injured in violence during the Sunday referendum.

It was believed that the Spanish government had promised to stop this referendum and the country's highest constitutional court had also declared illegal.
The police prevented the voters from entering some of Barcelona's polling stations, and in the regional capital Bessillona, ​​the police charged sticks on separation-like protesters and run rubber pills. In addition, the authorities also seized belt paper and belt boxes in a few places.
Catalonia's regional government and the local health department have confirmed the number of injured, while the Spanish Interior Ministry says 11 policemen have also been injured.
