Patriots quarterback Cam Newton 'embarrassed' by ongoing struggles
Cam Newton calls himself a realist. That’s why he wasn’t surprised when Bill Belichick benched him at the end of the New England Patriots' 33-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Driving home after the game, he said, he acknowledged to himself the harsh reality of this current situation.
“For any type of competitor, do you feel embarrassed? Yeah,” Newton told WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show on Monday morning. “… The first thing I said to myself coming home, I said, ‘You keep playing games like that, bro, and it’s going to be a permanent change (to Jarrett Stidham).’”
On Sunday, Newton had similar struggles against the 49ers that he had the week before in the team’s loss to the Denver Broncos – he’s not reading the field well while his accuracy continues to hold himself and the offense back.
