Maybe They Should Stop Going Woke

Birds of Prey has just released last week at the box office and things seem to not be going as well as expected with ticket sales, and not a single person seems to have any idea why. Well I'm here to mansplain exactly why, Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, is now the record holder of the worst opening weekend result of a DC Film. This even did worse than the 2011 Green Lantern movie with Ryan Reynolds, and every film critic and online publication was telling all of us just how amazing this is, well it's not, and here's why.

It's the story no one actually wanted to see, the reason is pretty simple, it's because Harley Quinn is a villain as well as a side kick. The only reason the other characters were added was because the studio knew that Harley alone would not be able to carry the entire film. In essence her character has very little depth and motivations are not at all complex, she loves the Joker and is a psychopath, there's really not much more to it. So it's easy to see why the average person doesn't have all that much in common with a character that just wants to kill people for the sake of killing them.

The other main reason why I think people just couldn't be bothered to go watch this, is due to the overpowering feminism messaging and identity politics that everyone is just really sick of by now. Almost every review and article about the film leading up to the release last Friday had the exact same theme. It was all about girl power, feminism, and diversity, a film that puts men in their place and kicks the patriarchy right up the ass. There's your problem right there, most people are so over the identity politics and PC culture, they don't want it forced into their entertainment. The political message is more important and the story, them being a just female team is also more important than the characters or even why they are there and what they are doing. Every article and review has to point out these political issues, and by default makes the film great, regardless of the characters, the acting , dialog or even the art, it's "fantabulous" because of the political message. And because this is now a woke film, no journalist who wants to keep their job would dare give this film an honest rating.
