Global warming is real - Cape Town feels its effects

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Few weeks back there was serious water shortage in Cape town (South Africa). People were even adviced to only use water sparingly as the situation was severe.

Combined water stored in the six main Cape dams fell to 35.7% of overall capacity (down from 36.9% last week).

It is said to see USA president thinking global warming is not real.

President Donald Trump was skeptical of global warming long before he announced on June 1 he was withdrawing the United States from the Paris climate accord.

The water levels have really dropped to severe levels which is really a crisis.

After a lot of prayers for rain:

There is even reports of people dead which is really sad and so unfortunate : Eight people killed in Cape Town storm. Schools have been closed...some roads have been closed...its really bad.

Collection of some of the damages:

The whole scene reminds me of the movie 2012.

Yes and we all have to take necessary steps to stop if it's possible in form.
Thanks..And Glad if you follow @whiteblood.

Thanks...upvoted cancer post and followed you

I can't believe how some people still believe global warming is a hoax. The earth average temperature increased in the last 100 years with a 1 degree Celsius. That's a lot, imagine the energy needed to heat all the oceans constantly. This is because CO2 traps heat. I won't explain, you have google for that, search for scientific papers on google scholar.

Its serious and its happening lets pray for Cape Town

Dude, its hectic down here in the Western Cape and I dont think people can fully comprehend the magnitude of the situation. Here is my write up on it.

Thanks will keep praying for Cape Town its hectic. Im in Pretoria and im terrified of whats happening down there...upvoted and resteemed your post

I think the situation can only be improved if we all work together and each and every one of us contribute to reduce the wastage.

You right...lets promote awareness lets post more about it #globalwarming

Is it really CO2 or are Southafricans just destroyed the capacity of their land to hold water?

There are a number of factors that have contributed to the problem. Population increase, poor resource management and a long drought ( climate change. )

Really poor politicking too

Climate change is an issue - no denying that. I start by saying that. HOWEVER, and this is very important - I am a Capetownian - that this is more political than anything. Cape Town forms part of the Western Cape Province - both of which are governed by South Africa's official opposition, The Democratic Alliance. The ANC are not crazy about them and this province not being under their control bothers them terribly. The DA has tried, and spectacularly failed, to capitalize on the ANC being responsible for bulk water supply. They played a dangerous game of chicken, procrastinating on taking evasive action when they could, and its now too late. The ANC by doing nothing, have done no wrong. The DA who pride themselves on good governance have virtually let the worlds first major city, run dry. The population didn't double over night, the dams didn't recede over night. There are alternatives - desalination, however South Africa is very anti Israeli as well as using abundant ground water. The best evidence of this is that NOW, with less than 90 days to go, they are doing it. They've continually blamed a lack of budget - now they've started. Nothing has changed. Unfortunately for Cape Town, my staff, my family - its just too late. A game of Russian roulette where they did shoot themselves in the head. Climate change is a problem, but its not Cape Town's problem.
