It's a strange dichotomy where anonymity and transparency are both important. Silk Road was run off of Bitcoin for quite some time and they only got busted because of undercover agents. To say there is no anonymity on the blockchain means you're only looking at one side of the spectrum.
The blockchain was created to decentralize. Anonymity is important for the underdog and transparency is important for the big dogs running the show.
