This is a very dangerous initiative. If they get to 270 delegates and effectively nullify the Electoral College it will be hugely divisive for America. The Electoral College gives groups of similar people (either states or counties, depending on the state) a collective vote. This is similar to how the winner of The World Series is the team that wins the most games out of 7, NOT the team that has the most cumulative points after 7 games.

Without the Electoral College politicians will only pander to voters in big cities. All advertising and events will eventually be done only in major population centers, with rural America being entirely ignored and powerless. That sets us up for conflict similar to that portrayed in The Hunger Games, or worse.
