Fishermen surprised by a 15-foot Great White SHARK with their boat in South Carolina
Five fishermen got an early Christmas surprise when a massive 15-foot Great White shark circled their boat off the coast of South Carolina.
The Wisconsin natives were on a chartered fishing expedition on Hilton Head Island when the enormous fish made an appearance.
The owner of Outcast Fishing only expected to catch and release smaller fish such as sea bass or redfish, but plans changed when the shark appeared.
At about noon I saw a big shadow behind the boat, and I was surprised because I was so close inshore,' said owner Chip Michalove to the Myrtle Beach Online.
It usually takes Michalove at least a day of searching to find a Great White. This shark appeared after just a few hours.
'To only be out there for a couple hours and have one circle the boat was pretty rare,' he said.
The shark came in. It would circle the boat a few times, and then it would leave. Then it would come back. Every time we thought she was gone for good she showed right back up.'
The animal stayed around the boat for about 45 minutes before swimming off. However, it stayed too far away for Michalove to hook it or tag it.
He described the shark as 'real timid' and said his guests enjoyed the experience.
'They were absolutely blown away,' said Michalove. 'They said 'how in the world are we going to be able to top this?' They were so excited they were speechless by the end of the day.'
Michalove said that his boat may have been mistaken for a dead whale, which is why the shark could have approached it.
