How much do you share on the Internet about your children's lives? And to what extent do you want to see information about the lives of others ' children on social networks?

But what is the sharenting?

Is the conjugation of two words share and parenting, (sharenting).
It consists of documenting the first smiles, words, steps... and each of the smallest anecdotes on Facebook, Instagram and other social networks.

And it has become a practice so common that the British dictionary Collins included it in its pages in 2016. Since then, the phenomenon has continued to grow.

So far, there has been no other generation of children with such a public childhood. And it is likely that, when they grow up, many disagree with it.

"Children have to form their own identity and develop their own sense of the public and the private."

But why can sharenting be harmful?

Social networks make people shop more and more in more public forms of communication; It seeks to socialize, obtain recognition, empathize, to know of the day to day of a person, the photos of the holidays, etc. Without going any further, the presenter Tania Llasera, who raises photos of her little one in a habitual way in Instagram, echoed the news of Sharenting and promised to change, will he get it? At the moment, only 11 photos of her son have been uploaded after the publication.

As if it were not enough, there are also parents who include their children as part of the strategy in their social channels. As is the case of YouTuber DaddyOFIve, with more than 750,000 subscribers, has lost custody of their children 9 and 11 years for mistreating them to the camera. Is it all right to get followers? We're going crazy!

Skipping this bad example as a tutor, we have others that we are more accustomed to see and that we do not associate to a bad practice. As you know, babies and children are the indisputable stars of social networks, who has not seen on YouTube children who fall from the swing, who run into toy cars, which are given golpetazos, crying or laughing?

"As time goes by we will all have online embarrassing information and pictures of our adolescence that we will be ashamed of. Ex Google CEO, Eric Schmidt"

Parents who upload this type of videos of their children are not aware of the viral that can become a video that can mark the future life of the child.

Three categories of parents in social networks:

  • The proud ones: those who would love to have their Facebook contacts know everything about their children. And they are responsible for publishing each photo and anecdote through the social network.

  • The Protectors: They are the protectors of the privacy, no less proud of their children but much more cautious when it comes to publish images in which the minors appear.

  • The irritated: "It bothers Me when parents post things like birthday messages when their kids aren't old enough to read it" Shaun Bacon. "Do not tell me whether it is your birthday or how proud you are of it or of it, tell them it to your face, that you live in the same house. I don't need to see that, "he concludes.

"It is important to know that the existence of certain images of children may cause them to be used for purposes such as child pornography, cyberbullying, cyberbullying or cibersuplantación of identity."

What do you think of the Sharenting?
