Temperatures, Sea Levels And Carbon Dioxide Hit Turning Points Due To Extreme Weather In 2015 - Report By National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration (News About Climate Change)

in #news9 years ago (edited)

National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration is an American, scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce, which is focused on the conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere.

According to NOAA recent report, 2015 was the warmest on the record. The annual surface temperatures beat the mark set in 2014 by 0.1 °C. This means that the planet is now 1 °C warmer than it was in pre-industrial time. This is caused in large by massive escalation of the production of greenhouse gases.
The United Nations has already mentioned that this 2016 is very likely to break the record again, after 14 continuous months of extreme heat caused by a powerful El Niño - a weather event in Pacific that raises global temperatures.
The temperature of oceans has also reached a new record. Rapid spikes have been noted in the El Niño dominated eastern Pacific, which was recorded to be 2 °C warmer than the long term average. In the Arctic, the temperature in August hit worrying 8 °C above average. Currently the oceans absorb more than 90% of extra CO2, which is pumped into the atmosphere.
