Miners Rejoice! AMD releasing RX 500 series GPUs on April 4th, RX Vega Later
The incredibly successful AMD Polaris RX 4xx lineup will be getting a refresh release on April 4th. The very popular $200 RX 480 is an incredibly powerful GPU with very low power consumption, and is equally popular between gamers and miners.
RX 500 series
The upcoming RX 500 series will be a refresh of the current RX 400 series line-up; namely the RX 460, 470, and 480. The refresh will offer a better core clock, memory speed, better cooling and power management. This should help a lot of consumers which prefer top-notch performance at low price and power consumption like miners. The RX 580 and 570 will be released on April 4th, and the RX 560 and 550 (A new low-end SKU) will release on April 11th.
RX Vega series
The newly announced and highly-anticipated HBM2 based AMD RX Vega series will come out in the 2nd half of this year, and is expected to target the high-end enthusiast segment of the GPU market. Two Vega GPUs are expected to be released: The Vega 10, and Vega 11.
Following are the key features expected from AMD RX Vega series-
- Next Generation Compute Unit optimized for higher clock speeds
- Next Generation Compute Engine
- Next Generation Pixel Engine
- 4x Power Efficiency
- 2x Peak Throughput
- High Bandwidth Cache
- 2nd Generation High Bandwidth Memory/ HBM2 with 8x Capacity Per stack
The RX 480 is very popular between ETH miners, people have set up mining farms full of these RX 480 GPUs. It'll be interesting to see how well the RX 500 and Vega series perform under mining workloads.
