WhatsApp is removing the forward button because people are spreading too many rumors.

WhatsApp has come a long way since its inception. What was a second choice communication tool has now surpassed print and digital media. It has infiltrated India like no other service could. Its exceptional reach along with people's inability to check facts has created a nuisance for the democracy. Cases of public lynchings over suspicion of child kidnapping are on a rise primarily because of rumors spread on WhatsApp.

The government has since then asked Facebook to curb these rumors. Whatsapp is currently testing limited forwards and also looking into removing the forward button. The hassle of copy-paste is the best bet against fake news it seems.
