Europol confirmed laundering through crypto currency up to $ 5 billion

He also added that now the trend of using crypto currency in "laundering" illegally obtained money will only grow despite the fact that now this amount is only 4.5-5% of the total amount of illegal circulation of funds.

At the same time, as noted in Europol, despite all the measures taken, the possibilities of service in this direction are still considerably limited. The reason is that in most cases it is very difficult for the police to determine who is taking out this money. Wainwright argues that this is more than suits criminals.

The head of the European police also informed that the most difficult situation is with such crypto-currencies as Monero or Zcash. The algorithms of these virtual money make it possible to considerably complicate the task of law enforcement officers in setting up the sender or recipient of the transaction.

As Europol emphasizes, one who provides services for the exchange of "digital funds" for cash must feel responsible and cooperate with the police.

Earlier, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, stated that international regulation of operations with crypto-currencies is inevitable.
