Acapulco Sunsets: Crazy Skies Bring Huge Earthquakes (Magnitude 8.0 earthquake off the Mexican coast of Chiapas)

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Tonight in Acapulco we had one of the best sunsets we've had in awhile and just as I sit down to share these photos with you, Rebel starts freaking out for no reason. John and I spent a bit discussing why he was acting the way he was when the earth started to rumble and I cut him off with "It's an earthquake, and it's still happening."

The rain had just started and I thought it was thunder at first but as the ground kept rumbling it was clear it was a quake. I think it even temporarily stopped before starting again. It was long enough for me to post "acapulco has been quaking for like a minute now, literally still quaking" without lying about it. It's by far the longest one we've experienced here.

John immediately started looking into it and found it was a 8.0 earthquake 395 miles from here off the coast of Chiapas, which is now at risk for tsunami. Oaxaca, the neighboring state experienced a lot of shaking and possible damage too.

To put it in perspective there are less than 100 magnitude 8.0 earthquakes or above recorded in the last 100 years. I wish the best for the people living on the coast of Chiapas and Oaxaca.

There's a tsunami warning now, crazy stuff! [Here's] the wikipedia page already posted on the event.

Beautiful Sunset!

Beautiful scenes of the sunset, fantastic colors, transitioning from color to color. Were these on the same day/night? Great!

That was some impressive sunset! Probably the best you have captured so far :-) How ironic that this was the preamble for such an unexpected and catastrophic occurrence. I hope there was no significant damage over there, and that everyone is well and safe @lily-da-vine.

woow what views, you have made a beautiful pictures. the sky has always been here with these beautiful colors.. but you picture are awesome in different places. @lily-da-vine

Amazing. . I like it. . Thankyou for sharing 👏👏👏

Jeesh. Solar flairs, the West coast of the US is burning (it's been snowing ash here in Portland for the last 4 days or so), massive hurricanes in the East Coast and now Earthquakes there?
Sounds like the damned apocalypse.

Glad you're safe! Keep us posted!

That can be a scary thing to try. I know because my wife is a philippina and they have a lot of earth quakes. Nature have so much power that it's almost unbelievable. Hope you are all ok
