Republicans treat the Puerto Ricans like the Democrats treat veterans.
t's amusing to listen to people complain about how the federal government has failed Puerto Rico (and it has) while simultaneously arguing for a whole variety of policies, including those associated with democratic socialism, that would give the federal government much more responsibility and many more resources.
If government can't do the relatively simple job of getting food or electrical power to the residents of Puerto Rico, why should we ever expect it to run a health care system or make good decisions about how to invest "social resources" for 330 million people?
This isn't a failure due to incompetence or malevolence. It is STRUCTURAL, and there's a long literature in political economy that explains the reasons.
