Denmark's Free Education Policy has Created 'Eternity Students' Who Never Graduate

Well, Denmark didn't see that coming, did they?

I've always wondered why the infatuation with making college 'free' so that everyone could attend.

On one hand, the appeal of having a higher educated populace is GREAT! This should be a goal.

On the other hand, who controls what's being taught? Right now it's extremely progressive, SJW-crazed liberals who fill student's heads with divisive drivel that is counterproductive to a productive populace. No thanks, hard pass.

Also, if everyone goes to college, do you really appreciate it? How seriously did you take your high school education? If it costs you something to go, anything, you'll take it more seriously.

Free trade school for everyone?

Much better, now we're talking! Now if we could just find a way to voluntarily fund for it (vice taxing everyone).

It sounds like something that would be right up PragerU and Mike Rowe's alley. Put together a purely voluntary-funded charity that guarantees funding if you wish to attend the following trade schools:

Aircraft Mechanic
Appliance Repair
Auto Body
Automotive
Carpentry
Commercial & Industrial Maintenance
Construction & Building
Construction Management
Diesel Mechanic
Diving
Drafting
Electrician
Environmental Technology
Flight Training
Gardening/Landscape Design
Gunsmithing
Heavy Equipment
Home Inspection
HVAC
Industrial Technology
Locksmithing
Machine Technologies
Marine & Watercraft
Motorcycle Repair
Oil & Gas
Plumbing
Renewable Energy
Small Engine Repair
Solar Energy
Truck Driving
Welding
Wind Energy
Underwater Welding

Imagine how self-sufficient our population would be if everyone had actual skills.

Ideally, we could tie in these trade schools to be part of our existing social safety network. Want food stamps? Want to collect unemployment? Prove you are making progress to further your human capital in the trade of your choice.

What would an ideal 'free college' model look like to you?

Solution: Freely competing private schools - if you can't afford it now, people can agree to pay the school once they've got a job (e.g. 10% of the wage for the first year or something like that)

Excellent suggestion. You could improve it with smart contracts and schools can give out scholarships. That's how I went to one of the top schools in my country.

Great advance. Public education systems are destined to fail, students simply go to school because it is free and they do not focus on learning, many leave the race in half (which means that all money goes to waste), and many others only "study" to get a title and a good job, which is a degradation of the system, since the goal of studying is to acquire knowledge, not get a job, the latter is just a plus.

"Machines should work. Humans should think."
Getting a job is a mentality that gets people into getting some paper qualifications to get into a position where they simply do what they are told. In our lifetime, we'd see smart contracts getting smarter than these Job-Zombies.
