A group of Florida teens who taunted a drowning man while filming his death from afar will not be criminally charged, according to police.

Before you lose faith in humanity, be aware that for every one of these events there are probably a hundred acts of heroism and kindness. You can't generalize from one event.

Consider that this kind of callous attitude, a mark of psychopathy, is more common among people attracted to positions of power, than in the general population. THAT is what should scare you.

For those who are familiar with the bystander effect, we are literally seeing and hearing a concrete case of it in this video.
From Wikipedia:

The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon in which individuals are less likely to offer help to a victim when other people are present.

Had one of those teens been solo, or in a smaller group. It could have turned out differently.

We should reject any push to enact any type of 'Required Good Samaritan' laws, though. The state can't compel people to act. What these teens did wasn't 'illegal', but a free society should identify them and ostracize them appropriately. There's character issues here.

This is disturbing and horrifying. Karma will get them sooner or later.

I don't recall when I ever HAD any faith in humanity..

How bloody awful.
I agree with that Everitt dude, humanity has gone when this type of event is tolerated.
How did we get here?
Constant propaganda over decades diluting our morality and glorifying stupidity IMO.
Thanks for posting the story.

This is horrible. The very least they could have done was call authorities for help. They didn't even do that
