Police Illegally Arrest Nurse Who Refuses To Violate Law

The police are moving on from harassing dogs to harassing nurses.

Police in Salt Lake City desperately attempted to extract an illegal blood sample from a man who was unconscious after striking a separate vehicle being pursued by the police.

The patient was not under arrest. The patient was not conscious, and therefore not able to consent. That left only one legal option for the police to pursue: a warrant.

The police didn't have a warrant.

Naturally, they decided the best thing to do would be to attempt to intimidate the nurse into breaking the law, then arrest her when she refused.

As expected, the police supervisor simply ignored the illegality of the situation and doubled down on their subordinates crime.

Police accountability is a key political issue, and this type of lawlessness from those intended to uphold the rules simply breeds widespread contempt for the law.

You can see parts of the "arrest" here on YouTube:

Welcome to police state USA.

When you gradually empower and militarise the police over such a long period you actually don't need to declare martial law, you just wake up one morning and find yourself there.

Move slow and strike hard

Some interesting studies have shown that simply improving their equipment to military grade makes them....surprise...act more militant.

Good for her. More people need to be as logical as her and not just roll over when a person in a uniform orders you to do something. I hope she wins a huge lawsuit.

Update - The officer involved has been "placed on administrative leave".

Agreed! I wouldn't hold my breath, though. Juries are pretty favorable to police officers.

Not finding a police officer to be trustworthy by default can be grounds for jury removal.

Man, when this woman gets done suing the city, the police department going to look like this. Fuck the police! I had to say it bro.

What saddens me about this picture is I am sure this is a supplemental, bonus headquarters as opposed to the main one.

You got my vote and a resteem :)

I am so disappointed that this is happening in a developed country.

I guess being "developed" is always up for change/interpretation.

Hmmm, thats true, but as it is today, developed will be more suitable word to use. Albeit, they may not be developed in all areas and manners of life and human interaction.

Like most things, it's ultimately relative.

Saw it yesterday. Sickening.

I was flabbergasted when I saw the video. The patient was also the victim, not a suspect.

You said it. Someone needs to be fired.

What really creeps me out is the blue line held strong when they were wrong. The cop even said that if they are wrong it's no big deal. What?!!! That's nuts! These guys need fired

Agreed. The good news is that officer was placed on "administrative leave".

Even as someone who would like to go into law enforcement (though most likely federal), this is absolutely sickening.

She literally presented him with evidence that she could not take the sample here without consent of the driver (without a warrant), and this shit is what happened. I hope this prick gets fired. "Paid leave"? He should be "leaving" out the damn station door without a second thought, and without a job...

Unfortunately, this type of thing is happening a lot lately, and often with much worse transgressions. I'll be including this in a post soon, but another officer just shot a reporter for no reason with no warning. Very odd story.

Something is really sick with our Police. They are willing to arrest a staff member, told another staff member he was next.
For what? So they could get evidence against a man who had done nothing wrong, had not been accused of doing anything wrong, who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
That Nurse was in charge of patients, taking her away was patient abandonment.
The people of Utah should be up in arms that their police would have the nerve to go into a hospital and start arresting staff, that had patients to care for. for no reason other than to get evidence against an innocent man.
