Catalanian Independence Crisis now in Deep Political Shit

in #news7 years ago

The long going conflict between the independence-wanting Catalanian region and the main government of Spain has gotten hotter in the last weeks and has now culminated in parliamentary votes on both sides.

On Friday the Catalanian regional parliament voted for independence with 70 in favour, 10 against, and two abstentions. Total number of members is 135, so the vote barely passed the majority mark.

Not much later the Spanish parliament voted 214 to 47 to allow the Spanish government to take direct control over the Catalonian region to protect the constitution, as the president called it.

Will this conflict erupt in violence? Will there be a political solution or complete chaos? We will see in the near future.
