UN Official's Tour of US - Where 41 Million Live in Extreme Poverty
THEY ARE POOR SO THE RICH CAN HAVE MORE:
The Guardian joined the UN’s Philip Alston in a 2 week tour of the poorest parts of the world's richest nation, the US.
Of a population of 323 million people, "nine million have zero cash income – they do not receive a cent in sustenance."
This tour comes at a time when:
- the Republican majority cuts taxes for the rich and increases them for the poor.
- the GOP slashes programs for the poor and elderly.
- wealth inequality in the US is the most extreme in any industrialized nation.
- when three men – Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffet – own as much as half of the entire American people.
