Google Executive Chairman casts his views in a discussion on Fox:

We're not arguing for censorship, we're arguing just take it off the page. Put it somewhere else. Make it harder to find.
-Eric Schmidt

Schmidt believes it is possible for computers to detect malicious and fake news stories and just "hide them" from our view. While the bots on YouTube may give a glimpse at what this future looks like, the real danger lies in who controls those bots. While it might be nice to imagine the internet free from fake news claims, Google is not who we should be giving up this authority to. Removing information from search results is censorship, not of the absolute sort but just as dangerous.

Fake news has nowhere near the danger of centralized "authorities" for truth on the internet. Especially if those authorities abuse their position. Creating a central (but not centralized) system using blockchains and game theory could be a solution, much like the Wikitribune project; however, even when built in a decentralizing manner, manipulation will be a problem until the game theory of verification and search as a human service sorts itself out - and that's not until a few years down the line.

Stay decentralized,
-Kyle
