Xiaomi To Launch Gaming-Centric Smartphone Under Black Shark Branding

Xiaomi, the fourth largest smartphone brand in the world and the second largest in their home country, China, has been dominant in the budget segment with their Redmi lineup. Back in 2016, Xiaomi in collaboration with French designer Phillipe Starck has unveiled the bezel-less Mi MIX concept smartphone with a completele ceramic built. Last year, the company launched the Mi MIX 2 with few improvements to make it easy for mass production.

Now, Xiaomi seems to enter a completely new smartphone segment in the near future, Gaming. Xiaomi caters several niches in the Chinese market with its arsenal of subsidiaries. It even sells Bath Towels and Cooking Utensils through its Mi Home stores in China.
Now, a new Xiaomi subsidiary called Black Shark came out of the stealth mode. The company’s verified page on Weibo confirms it as a mobile phone manufacturer.

In laptops, we have gaming specific brands like ROG and Alienware from Asus and Dell respectively. Now, Xiaomi seems to create gaming specific smartphone brand with the Black Shark. According to the Chinese government website, the first smartphone from Black Shark will come with a flagship processor and aviation-class cooling system. It is even mentioned to feature DSP integrated graphics, but we don’t have any information regarding that.

Xiaomi is famous to give flagship products at mid-range price and brands like Xiaomi & Oneplus are the reason that there is now a segment called Premium Mid-Range.
My thought is that once the products will be out in the market, manufacturers will have to start pricing lower than before, just as how smartphones markets have seen the change.
