US President Donald Trump and his South Korean counterpart Mon Jai-N promised on Sunday to push for a successful summit between Washington and Pyongyang following North Korean threats to cancel the meeting.

During a telephone conversation Sunday, Trump and Moon exchanged views on "the latest North Korean actions," the South Korean presidency said in a statement.

The two leaders agreed to "work closely" on the success of the landmark June 12 summit in Singapore between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Young-on.

After months of diplomatic rapprochement and détente, Pyongyang on Wednesday made a remarkable return to its traditional rhetoric by talking about the possibility of doubting the holding of the summit in mid-June.
