The New York Times suspended one of its correspondents in the White House, Glenn Thrush, after being accused by several women of sexual misconduct, the newspaper said Monday.

The decision was made after the Vox website accused Thrush of acting inappropriately with young women when he was a reporter for the Politico site, where he worked before entering the New York Times in January to cover the Trump administration.

"The alleged behavior is very disturbing and does not correspond to the standards and values of the New York Times," a newspaper spokesman said Monday.

"We will conduct a full investigation and meanwhile, Glenn will be suspended." The New York Times supported Thrush's decision to initiate substance abuse treatment, he added.

In an article published on Monday on the Vox site, journalist Laura McGann states that five years ago, in a bar, Thrush put his hand on her leg and kissed her without her consent. Three other women reported having lived similar experiences, in which the journalist known for his felt hat touched them or kissed them during events in which they drank alcohol.

Thrush was one of six reporters covering the White House and the activities of President Donald Trump full-time for the newspaper. He also writes a book about the president with his colleague Maggie Haberman.

His suspension comes after other veteran journalists fell victim to the avalanche of complaints that began affecting Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, accused of sexual harassment, and that has spread to other industries.
