TURKEY - President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday (6/24/2018) night, announced victory in the Turkish presidential and parliamentary elections.

"Our nation has given me a job as president and executive power," Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul, as quoted by Serambinews.com from Anadolu Agency.

According to unofficial results based on 98.11 percent of the votes counted, Erdogan received 52.52 votes.

Erdogan defeated his strong rival, Muharrem Ince, who won 31% of support, according to Turkish state media Anadolu.

That way, the 64-year-old man again occupied the number one seat in the country.

Erdogan's victory in this year's election made him Turkey's first leader under a presidential system of government. Erdogan will have considerable power.

The BBC reports, in the new Turkish constitution that will take effect after the election, the president will trade a very large power.

In the past, the presidency in Turkey was nothing more than ceremonial office.

However, in April 2017, 51% of Turkish voters supported a new constitution which gave the president a number of strong powers.

Following are some of Recep Tayyip Erdogan's powers and powers after winning the 2018 Election:

  1. Appoint direct public officials in important positions, including ministers and vice presidents

  2. Interfering with the legal system

  3. Apply emergency status

  4. Removing the post of prime minister

In addition to Erdoga's absolute victory, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK) and the People's Alliance-alliance between the AK Party and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), also appears to have won a parliamentary majority with a combined vote of 53.59 percent.

Critics accuse Erdogan of trying to govern alone, and his political opponents say his power will not bring change.

If the presidential and legislative elections are both won by Erdogan and the AK party, Turkey's political landscape will not change much.
