Illusion of the stopped clock, Restless brain and The flicker effect..

Before proceeding, I recommend you visit the first part:

As mentioned in the previous post, we could say that the combination of the fovea and the rest of the cornea captures an 8-megapixel image, to put it in perspective the iphone takes 12 megapixel photos, every second your eye sends about 45 images of these to your brain, remember the fps and here comes into play this organ which makes a post processed of the images, very convoluted and deceiving us, making us believe that we are seeing a continuous image, without being able to perceive that in reality It deals with photos that our eyes are sending also creates a false sense of homogeneous resolution filling the gaps of information outside the fovea.

Another incredible example of our brain inventing its information is
the illusion of the stopped clock
, it has never happened to you that while in class or at work you have looked at the clock on the wall or the one on your wrist to see how much time was left and you have noticed that the first second lasted a little longer than the rest, it was longer this happens because moving your eyes from one place to another while the movement takes place we capture some very blurry images that if you try to remember you never see this is because your brain eliminates them and reaches that information gap with the first still image that sees the first second of the clock, literally creates a false memory
(Restless brain)
that is implanted in the memory that would correspond with your eyes moving from one end of your field of vision to the other, this false memory lasts less than a second, which may seem an insignificant time, but if you live 70 years these moments will end adding approximately two years, two years of lost information of invented memories, is fascinating.

I am also sure that you did not remember that you are seeing your nose, if it is always in your field of vision bothering but until I have told you has been unaware of its presence and is that the brain considers that your nose is completely irrelevant information, so it suppresses poor nose !!, but the brain can not always fill these gaps of information, if the fps are too low you will end up noticing, look at the fluorescent above, as you see continuously or not, the one on the bottom is the same fluorescent but recorded in slow motion, as you see it does not emit continuous light it turns off and on constantly, this happens because this fluorescent has a frequency of 60 hertz, that is to say it turns off and turns on 60 times per second, 60 fps is why unless you are a very trained military pilot that can be at more than 60 fps, your brain just does not realize it, assumes that there is only light when in reality too n there is darkness, these fluorescents are designed to operate at 60 Hz, because as we have seen is the maximum frequency that most humans can come to perceive to distinguish.

This effect has a name and is called
flicker effect
and since fluorescent lights are used so much in today's world the flicker effect has a consequence, at least curious, when we are indoors with the lights on really many times we are witnessing thousands of turned off and on per minute, without ever being able to see them but do not stress, and what happens if we keep going down something very interesting, if the frequency of the light goes down from 30 fps, to 15 for example; the brain realizes that something happens there is a darkness during which no information is receiving half the information in the same amount of time which can cause another illusion, that time passes more slowly, it is possible that have ever been a nightclub or exhibition of light art and have experienced this curious effect, a dark room full of people and with a single blinking light at a low frequency,
time will pass the same but to you, it will give you the feeling that everything happens in slow motion, you will have an illusion that you have more time to think about everything you do, that your environment goes much slower than your mind and is normal, You are having the same time to process half of the information, if you have never experienced it! I recommend it, it's very curious, it's also something much deeper than a simple fun optical illusion, think about what I've written, to feel that time goes in slow motion, because it raises a very interesting question !, there is a speed of Normal standard time for all organisms ?, is a second the same for you as for a fly, we have the same perception of time all living beings ?, we will see in the next post.
