THE GLORY OF SOMEONE'S SOUL

Imam ash-Shafi'iy rahimahullah said:

ﺟﻮﻫﺮ ﺍﻟﻤـــــــﺮﺀ ﻓﻲ ﺛﻼﺙ:
ﻛﺘﻤﺎﻥ ﺍﻟﻔـــــﻘـﺮ ﺣﺘﻰ ﻳﻈﻦ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﻣﻦ ﻋﻔﺘﻚ ﺃﻧﻚ ﻏﻨﻲ،
ﻭﻛﺘﻤﺎﻥ ﺍﻟﻐﻀـﺐ ﺣﺘﻰ ﻳﻈﻦ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﺃﻧﻚ ﺭﺍﺽ،
ﻭﻛﺘﻤﺎﻥ ﺍﻟﺸﺪﺓ ﺣﺘﻰ ﻳﻈﻦ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﺃﻧﻚ ﻣﺘﻨﻌﻢ.

"The glory of one's soul is in three things:
• Hiding poverty so that other people think that you have enough.
• Hiding anger so that others think that you are pleased.
• Hiding suffering so that others think you are living well."
