Fake/real news and the American Fool
In the States. The news could literally come out and say "Today we have footage of the political leaders choke raping baby seals and eating brown people."
The "people" of the States would be discontented... Maybe.
But they would wait around for someone in "authority" to do the right thing.
The so called authorities would wait for the go ahead to prosecute by political leaders.
Then Big Bang theory or some sports drivel would come on, and that would be the end of it.
Anyone whom tried to keep the headline relevant, (outside the gov't sanctioned news outlets) will be labeled a conspiracy theorist.
This blind faith in government is alarming.
Funny how governments created Gods to legitimize their rule. Now they have supplanted the gods they created and expect that worship to be foisted upon them.
And the people do it!
"But what about roads?! And roving gangs?!" And "Well if the world is run by criminals, at least I can choose the crime boss".
Really depends on which leaders are said to have done wrong.
Your title also implies you'll discuss false news in any respect but I didn't really pick up on that. Part of the reason America (and quite frankly the rest of the world) have become desensitized to the news especially recently is that, for those who actually care about what is real and what isn't, it's becoming clearer and clearer that the media is heavily skewed to one side.
Part of your reasoning for why viewers don't care is, for the side that thinks the news is right, they look at the news showcasing heavy racism and other "hate crimes" and go "I knew it", then turn away. For the people who don't agree, they look at the news and say "Well, that's probably bullshit", and again change the channel.
So it's less an issue w/ the people and more the media outlets themselves are corrupting ability for people to find the truth.

At the beginning of the article you joked about baby seals and brown people. And I have the real facts. The Russians propaganda talked about the fact that Ukrainian nationalists eat russian children, snowbirds and cut down all birches. (Russians consider that birch is national tree and snowbird is national bird.) And they believed in it! In this way Putin has justified the war with Ukraine. Around the world say that conflict in Ukraine is civil war, not Russia's aggression. And many people believe it. The Russians say that in all of the world's conflicts blamed Americans. While Russia is fighting for peace in the world. And many Russians believe in it. This phenomenon is called propaganda of Gebels. Gebels was a colleague of Hitler. The more incredible the lie, the more willing to believe in it. It is through such propaganda people go to war. It's unbelievable but true.
