Well i guess this person has to pay for his crime. Even though he managed to get the bar out, he has to pay for his crime. As the sayings goes, you do the crime, you do the time. I am surprised that his jail terms is so short. This will encourage others to try since the jail term is not significant. The future offenders will be smarter as can learn from this story....will explore other ways to dispose of the gold.
