US F-22 Jet Catch the Russian Tu-95 Bomber Plane in Near Alaska
Russian nuclear forces sent two Tu-95 strategic bomber aircraft to the US Air Identification and Defense Zone near Alaska on Friday. The two bombers were intercepted by two F-22 fighter jets.
North American Defense Command (NORAD) on Saturday (05/12/2018) confirmed the interception of two Moscow bombers who could carry the nuclear bomb.
NORAD spokesman Captain Scott Miller said both Moscow bombers infiltrated the Air Identification and Defense Zone (ADIZ) over the Bering Sea near Alaska beach early Friday.
"At about 10:00 AM, two NORAD, F-22, Alaska-based intercept aircraft intercepted and visually identified two Russian Tu-95 'Bear' long-range bomber aircraft flying in the Air Defense Identification Zone off Alaska's west coast, north of the Aleutian Islands, "Miller told Washington Free Beacon.
According to Miller, the two bombers did not enter the US or Canadian airspace. There was no unusual activity associated with the F-22 and Tu-95 meetings. Military inter-pilot communications were also not intertwined.
"The aircraft bomber was flying in international airspace and flying according to international norms," Miller said.
"NORAD continues to monitor all air activity coming from inside and outside of North American airspace," Miller added.
He gave no further details about the mission of the two Russian bomber planes. The Moscow military has also not confirmed the interception of its two bombers by two American F-22 fighter jets.
