The offensive started on May 10, 1940 at 5:35 and ended the period of a strange war on the Western Front. The Germans successfully managed to implement the blitzkrieg idea, and as a consequence France surrendered on 22 June. The campaign was a major victory of the Third Reich over France. It led to the exclusion of France (together with the colonies and the navy) - through the terms of the ceasefire - from the anti-German coalition, the temporary isolation of Great Britain on the continent and devoting France's material resources to the needs of the Third Reich's military economy.
