Twice lately I've brought up "the deep state" with hard core lefties.

I got scorn and derisive laughter for suggesting such a "theory".
I said "Is it that hard to believe that people within agencies, that have been there their entire career, like the defense department, have their own agendas and don't give a crap about some elected official that comes and goes every four to eight years."
