Anonymous has stated that NASA is about to announce the discovery of intelligent alien life.

If this is legitimate is it something we really want? I find the idea that there's intelligent life in other corners of the solar system an obvious conclusion. Why would we be the only beings in this vast universe? It doesn't make sense. Especially when you consider parallel universes in the mix as well.

I do however question whether we want to find and make contact with intelligent life.

As Stephen Hawking said: "To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational.
The real challenge is working out what aliens might actually be like."
Hawking says that they could be microbes – basic animals such as worms which have been on Earth for millions of years, but suggests that extraterrestrial life could develop much further.
"We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet," Hawking said.
"I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach."
The scientist, who is paralyzed by motor neuron disease, warned that contact with alien life could spell disaster for the human race.
"If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn't turn out very well for the American Indians."

If aliens are anything like ourselves I hope we are never contacted. Although you have to think that a civilization that lasted long enough to advance to the point of making contact with us might have ironed out their primitive behavior and be looking for the best interest of the universe.
