IRS forces Coinbase to Provide Information on 13000 of its Users

in #news7 years ago

US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) took information of about 13000 of coinbase users for purposes of collecting taxes. Coinbase informed its customers about this development on Friday after IRS handed the court order to the San Francisco based cryptocurrency exchange.

The information included Name, Date of birth, Taxpayer ID and Trade/transaction ledger. It would be relevant to mention here that coinbase has been trying to fend of IRS from its users information since 2016 (initial demand by the government was of records of hundreds of thousands of coinbase users).

Andreas Antonopoulos was also one of the individuals whose personal information was also given to the IRS. This is what he tweeted after the notification by coinbase:

Note: Coinbase users should check their emails for notification by coinbase (include spam folder too!!!)
