Political unrest continues for several months in the Maldives, the Indian Ocean Islands. The country's powerful ruler, Abdulla Yamin, has put his main opposition leaders in jail, or else he has left the country. India has been opposing this political suppression of Maldivian government. And the Maldivian government claims to oppose Delhi's opposition to interference in internal affairs. Of these, the presidential election is scheduled to be held in the Maldives on September 23. However, the opponents fear that the elections can be over.

Modi said, "The political situation in Maldives is a matter of international concern. I hope the Maldivian government will soon start the process of reconstruction of the political process and allow democratic institutions to work independently, including the independence of the judiciary on the basis of fair and transparency. This will create an effective environment for the presidential election.

In the beginning of this year, the Supreme Court ordered the reinstatement of members of the Maldivian parliament and the release of dissidents from prison. The state has 45 days of emergency since February this year. Maldives Chief Justice, Supreme Court Justice, and even longtime ruler Yameen's elder brother Mamun Abdul Ghoum was arrested. The European Union, the US and other countries and human rights organizations have expressed concern in this campaign.

Meanwhile, Maldivian Ambassador to India Ahmed Mohammad said that the Maldives wants to withdraw Indian troops and return military helicopter to India because of the expiry of the contract in June. He said India gave two helicopters for rescue. But it is no longer necessary. Because, the country has bought the necessary equipment.
