Hong Kong veteran actor Ng Man-tat was confirmed to have passed away at age 70.

The actor has been suffering from liver cancer and passed away in his sleep with his wife, children and siblings with him at his death bed.

"He left us peacefully. Doctors had been prescribing medications to make him feel better, he passed away in his sleep," his close friend Tenky Tin Kai-Man said.

The star was recently reported to be seriously ill and was admitted to hospital to undergo chemotherapy after he was diagnosed with liver cancer late last year.

Ng Man-tat ‘s acting career started in 1973 when he was 22 and had been acting in many Hong Kong blockbuster movies since.

He acted in many iconic movies like Shaolin Soccer, Fight Back To School, The God of Cookery and more alongside Stephen Chow.

The late actor also received many awards and nominations for his acting over the years, winning the Hong Kong Film Award’s Best Supporting Actor for his role in A Moment of Romance featuring Andy Lau back in 1991 and more.

He reportedly suffered from deteriorating health in his recent years before he was diagnosed with liver cancer, and was rushed to the hospital for breathing problems back in 2014 and later diagnosed with the health failure.

Fans were heartbroken over his death with many paying tribute by posting their favourite roles played by the actor.

Rest in peace, Ng Man-tat.
