Punk's Not Dead... But It Was On Fire On Saturday
Saturday November 26, 2016, was the 40th anniversary of the release of the Sex Pistols first song, "Anarchy in the U.K." It was also the day when Joe Corre, the son of former Sex Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren, decided he would destroy millions of dollars worth of rare Punk Rock paraphenalia including items previously owned by band members Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten.
The collection was estimated to be worth between $6.2 to $12.5 million.
According to reports, Corre said that he was going to burn the items in order to protest the commercialization of Punk music. Corre said, “Punk has become another marketing tool to sell you something you don’t need". He seems to have been especially motivated to stage his "Burn Punk London" protest because of the fact that London's Mayor was backing a Punk music celebration called Punk.London.
On Saturday, Corre burned the valuable memorabilia in front of flags representing several global corporations as well as firework filled effigies of current and former British Prime Ministers.
Corre is the co-founder of a lingerie company. His company's name was not on any of the flags.
Many people, including Sex Pistol member Johnny Rotten, felt that the memorabilia or the proceeds from their sale should have been donated to charity.
Former Sex Pistols guitarist Glen Matlock said he believed Corre is a "nincompoop".

Excellent response! And thank you f or pointing out the flaw in the question. A better question would have been "what would you have done with the memorabilia" or soemthing like that. Because you are absolutely right. His stuff. His decison.
