On Sunday in Huntersville, North Carolina the local police officers shot and killed an armed man. There was a brief exchange of gunfire with him at the Novant Health Medical Center.
As of Monday, September 11th there has not been a named released or a motive for the shootings.

Huntersville police were called to the scene at 11:40 p.m. after witnesses had called 911 about a man who had fired several shots at the hospital in the 1000 block of Gilead Road, according to a press release sent out by the Huntersville Police Department early Monday morning.
“When police arrived, there were hospital employees and witnesses present to help direct the officers to the general vicinity where the gun shots were fired and the armed suspect was last seen. As officers combed the area, they encountered the gunmen still armed and dangerous” said the statement from Huntersville Police Department.
As officers engaged the suspect, there was a brief altercation, at that point, the armed suspect began acting in a way that threatened the safety of the officers and shots were fired to prevent the officers from being endangered at which point the alleged gunmen was struck by gunfire killing him.

The shooter was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

No officers, hospital staff or patients were injured during the incident, police said.

Huntersville Police said they have requested that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations conduct an investigation into the shooting. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the preliminary investigation, which is standard procedure.

Novant sent out a statement early Monday, noting it could not comment on the investigation. Details will be released by law enforcement, hospital officials said.
